TRIATHLON AND MULTISPORT
NEWS - AUGUST 2009
READY FOR A BIG SEASON
Only a handful of weeks to the ITU Triathlon World
Championships on the Gold Coast. There is something
for everyone with the ITU World Aquathlon Champs
open to all and an open sprint race also on the
race program. There is also opportunities to volunteer
over the race week also if you want to be part
of the show. At Noosa, the club held a race recently
over the 1/30/8 distance and had over 100 participants
- the biggest Noosa tri club race yet. The club
put on a great event and those that braved the
winter chill got a solid hit out of off season
racing. The next club event in Noosa in August
has some 150 registered and is full now, making
it certainly one of the to do events in South
East QLD in the lead up to the saeson. Getting
your race schedule for the upcoming season ready
should be now be happening so training can be
planned around your events. Keep working on your
weakness/s in training and remember that doing
a race is the best the best form of training there
is.
Train smart to race well

FINA TO GUIDE TRIATHLON
The recent Speedsuit dramas of the FINA Swimming
World Championships has generated al sorts of
comment - below we have come across a triathlete
with sense of humor.......
Drafting legalised
in Kona!
Wednesday, 29 July 2009
That's right, you heard it first. FINA (the governing
body of swimming) have taken over Ironman racing
and they have made some "improvements"
to the sport of triathlon. These modifications
will take place in Kona this year. Many professionals
have seen these new changes and have welcomed
them. Some of the new rules for Kona this year
are as follows;
Swim
* Any professional who does not want to swim
back from the out section of the swim can take
an inflatable water craft back to shore and then
start the bike.
* Swimmers can wear flippers in the water.
* Swimmers can nominate other friends to take
their place.
Bike
* Professionals may now draft on the bike leg.
They can also hang onto media trucks, grab food
and drinks from press scooters and afix motors
to their bikes.
* Pros can also call time out for cool refreshments
before taking their spot in the line up again.
* Riders can also use any of the pro teams to
come and help them team time trial the course
(we recommend not using Silence -Lotto!)
Run
* Instead of running the full 42km athletes
can nominate any of the crowd to do a leg, try
to pick someone quick!
* Dave Scott, Mark Allen or Chrissie Wellington
will run the last 10 km for you if you can't make
it.
* FINA will be supplying some NASA designed 'jet
runners' that will make you run sub 3 minute km's
So there you have it. We say goodbye to both
the ITU and WTC and welcome FINA as the new head
of triathlon. Sure triathlon in the 'old days'
(last week) was tough but with the new FINA direction
even the 70-74 age group can now go sub 9 hours.
